The Rider
My first ride was on the back of a Honda Mini Trail 70 at age 6. By 7, I had my first bike - a Honda MR 50 - and i rode that thing to death.
From XR75's, YZ80's and XL 125's to cross country miles on a Yamaha FJ600 (yes, I rode from Pensacola FL to Houston and back several times), Yamaha Road Star 1700, Honda Goldwing, a Harley Davidson Ultra Classic, and an Indian Roadmaster, I've seen the evolution from dirt to Enduro to Dual Sport to ADV. I can't tell you how many times I watched "On Any Sunday".
I've ridden more mountain passes than I can count and made some incredibly questionable decisions while exploring this beautiful country.
The Service
I served in the United States Navy from 1987 to 1991 aboard the USS Elmer Montgomery (FF1082). I earned the Blue Nose in the North Atlantic and the Combat Action Ribbon during Operation Desert Storm Desert Shield while serving as half of the ship's Search and Rescue team. I know what commitment is. I know what sacrifice is.
The Mission
I took a few years off from riding when my boys were young, but the ride never left me. I eventually flew to LA, bought a Yamaha Road Star 1700 and rode her back to Houston. Why? Why not! My wife thought that was a crazy idea. "Aren't there any motorcycles here in Houston?" she asked. Not the one I wanted. Questionable? Not my first. No where near my last.
We moved to Colorado where I spent 13 years riding above the tree line, 7 of those riding with the Combat Veterans Motorcycle Association. We moved to West Virginia in 2023.
THIS ADV LIFE was born here. I don't pretend to be some bad ass who has ridden ADV motorcycles his entire life. But I've been around the block. I know the GOOD. The BAD. The UGLY, and the BEAUTIFUL of this life on 2 wheels. When it's in your blood, it's not just a lifestyle. It's who you are. And I hope that translates to my work with THIS ADV LIFE.
Because on the road - whether that road is a country black top running from ridge to ridge, or a rocky gravel path that makes you question every decision you've ever made - this life is filled with humor. Good. Bad. Ugly. And absolute Beauty. That's THIS ADV LIFE. Welcome to it.
